Obituary for Harry L. Thomas

Harry L. Thomas, 79, of McRae, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was the son of the late Virgil Thomas, Sr. and Lula Mae Thomas.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 4th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Lowe's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Sunday, February 5th, at 2 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 1st Avenue, McRae. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Telfair Memorial Gardens.

The Rev. Wayne Cobb will be officiating.

A native of Milan, Harry served in the United States Air Force, from 1955-1965. The former Chief of Police, Harry served with the City Police of McRae from 1965-1970. Additionally, he served as a Sergeant with the Georgia State Patrol from 1970-1992. Finally, following his retirement with GSP, Harry was employed with the City of Helena and Telfair County Sheriff's Office. Harry worked under four Sheriffs with the Telfair County Sheriff's Office, retiring in December 2015.

Harry was preceded in death by his brothers, V.L., James, and Robert.

Harry is survived by his wife, Belinda; son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Jill; grandchildren, Ben and Hannah Grace. Brothers, Henry Grady (Edelle) Thomas and Earl (Lynn) Thomas. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Further, he is survived by his “special” children Jenna Yawn, Jody Thomas, Matthew Yawn, Brendon Yawn, Alexandria McClements, and Lillian McClements.
